Practice Areas / Cyber Fraud & Banking
Lost money to an online scam, or found your bank account suddenly frozen? Both situations need quick, correct action. We help you report fraud properly and understand what to do if your account has been frozen during an investigation.
Call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in as soon as possible, and inform your bank. The faster you report, the better the chance of the money being stopped.
Accounts are often frozen by banks at the request of police investigating cyber fraud, sometimes because disputed money passed through the account, even if the account holder did nothing wrong.
It usually starts with finding out which police station or agency asked for the freeze, then giving them an explanation and documents. If that doesn't work, an application to the court may be needed. Courts have repeatedly held that a freeze should usually be limited to the disputed amount rather than the whole account.
